EKG Rhythm Strips

For many nurses, the only chance they get to interpret EKG rhythm strips is when a patient is in distress. That can be very stressful! However, a simple and systematic method can help in those times of crisis.

The 5 Steps to Rhythm Strip Interpretation systematically reviews the major components of a rhythm strip to help determine the type of rhythm and the appropriate course of treatment. The 5 Steps are listed below:

1. Is the speed of the rhythm between 60-100?
2. Is it regular?
3. Is the complex narrow?
4. Is it preceded by a P-wave?
5. Do all the complexes look the same?

In this program, the learner will use 5 steps to analyze several common rhythms that may be seen in times of crisis. Characteristics of common rhythms and treatment priorities will be discussed.

5 Steps to Rhythm Strip Interpretation contains:

  • 60 minute audio CD
  • Workbook with examples

This program is taught by David W. Woodruff, MSN, RN, CNS, CCRN, a nationally-known nursing expert and teacher.
